Artist's Comments

My one really decent shot from the Fourth of July festivities. I thought our location was lined up to get the city skyline in the background, but not so. :(

My first ever attempt at fireworks.

Did a bit of post processing and cropped it a little too.

It so often occurs that there are very few shots in focus from a photo session. :(

But this one is so good that I think it was worth the shoot! :D

Looks good man.. i knew i was going to be around a lot of fireworks this year and wanted to make a point to get some great shots. i asked around and got some really good pointers and if i wasn't so close to the fireworks i was shooting of fi might have had a lot more shot lol

But the biggest help i found was Tripod, Remote, Bulb mode with the Shutter. Had all of it but i did upgrade my wireless remote to a cable so i had better response time. pretty much opened it when the shell took off and closed it when it finished. just most of them where out of fame :( but hey i have more and i will keep taking them till i get it right. or arrested for shooting them off LOL

Nice, i have some i need to post myself, fireworks can be fun and challenging to shoot, as crappy as it may sound, i have found that a wide angle lens helps tremendously, you can always zoom in in post processing and frame it to your taste, another help like the gent above said, Bulb helps shooting helps tremendously, set your aperture for about 8 or 10, after that, put your camera in manual focus, zoom in if you can to help get the focus using the first couple of fireworks, then once you get it in focus, zoom back out, gently of course so as to not knock it out of focus, and the rest is pure magic with your estimation on shutter speed, i have found that it helps to take a couple of trash shots, and do a head count on exposure, then snap some firework shots and adjust timing from there, but it helps you get pretty close, the high aperture helps with not having to guess how long 1/10 of a second is as far as timing and your finger goes, but of course that's adjustable too, but the focus may suffer some if you take the aperture below 5.6. either way, totally awesome!

this is superb, i couldn't have shot it any better myself.
although that does suck about the skyline thing.... but that is not the focus anyway.
