Artist's Comments

I displayed this one large just so you can count the stars.
I put it under manipulation cause I had to take drastic steps to get rid of the noise. Taken on a very very clear night, right on the edge of the world.

:wow: see? see? that is the belt of Orion, the three bright ones in the middle, forming a line, and you can see the shoulders and the legs too :wow:

SO you like?

And just for tech geek conversation; 30 seconds to collect all the light i could, f/3.5 to collect even more light (DoF did'nt matter too much), 200 ISO to help reduce the noise (but on the black sky it was still pretty noisey).

oh right, I noticed my mistake, for night shots that's a low ISO...

I don't know why but this song caught me :) I can understand why people would hate it, but I love this one

With the ISO, it's a trade off. Since these stars are tiny and don't produce much light, the 30 second exposure was kinda necessary. A higher ISO would collect more light, but the grainy/noise it produces was starting to cover up the stars. I shot at an ISO of 1600 at first, but all the little stars blended in with the noise. SO then I went down to the lower 200 ISO setting. Not as many stars would be recorded, but none got lost in the grainy background.

The long exposure (30 seconds) and open aperture (f/3.5) compensated for the lower ISO setting for the most part.

I liked the the song. Seemed a nice blend of techno sound and maybe a little 70's Ramones (or the Cars?) riffs in there too. Kind of original, and I thought the video was fun to watch too. Maybe we should start a beany hat club - :nerd:

That's a good plus for you. Helps widen your range a bit. I managed a handheld shot of a very dim twilight using ISO 1600, at 1/100 shutter speed and a f/5 aperture. Turned out not too bad. For my camera, the more color that is there the less noise seems to develope. Blacks and deep grays work as a noise canvas for displaying the static to best effect.
