Hello everybody. As you are aware, I drifted off for a while. Logging on to my page I was really gratified to see so many birthday wishes. My birthday is in June, so I guess that says a lot about the last time I was here for any significant time.

So here's the story. I was on YouTube and was watching a science video, and in the comment sections there was a brigade of these people who apparently believe the earth is flat. That was the beginning of a long spiral down a rabbit hole, which has admittedly been kind of fun, though frustrating. Fun, because I was curious to see why anybody would think there is evidence the earth is flat, and it has honed my science and thinking skills. Frustrating because the Flat earth community is a mix of conspiracy theorists and religious fundamentalists who seem to think preaching a flat earth is important to God. There is no convincing such people that what they believe can be any other way.

Anyhow. Thank you all for your warm consideration, and I hope you all enjoyed your holidays.

Hope to see you soon.

Edit: I made a video describing my feelings about flat earth.

If you don't want to read about photography details, just skip to the photos.

Anyone who has pointed a camera at the moon to get a photo of that great silvery orb in the sky knows that what ever assumptions you may have, the reality of getting a good moon photo is a bit more complicated. For example, our first thought is that the moon is out at night, so we need to do a long exposure. Not so. the moon is actually quite bright, and an exposure longer than 1/125 at f/8 (if I remember correctly) is going to get you a blown out moon, lacking detail. And if if you go longer, let's say 5 seconds, things start looking like daylight. Add to this the complication of the desire to add landscape or cityscape into the composition, and things really get out of hand. Trying HDR to match exposures does not really work, because the moon shifts position rather quickly. The only way to really get a good moon photo with an earthly context is to get the exposure right in one shot the first time. So...having said all that, I encountered these photos in the gallery of Sesjusz, and was very impressed with grasp of the technique of getting a moon shot. I hope you will enjoy these photos as much as I do.

Just some interesting favorites from over the last few days.

This one is listed as a photomanipulation. It is difficult to tell where the photos are at, and is so skillfully put together that it seems created whole and original. Also the way the theme is tied together into the creature is just amazing.

Monstrick by Poglazovs

This one is simply a photograph, but for clarity and quality of light, composition and sharpness; it seems to be created in a more controlled environment. A really excellent photograph.

The Ultimate Freedom... by SamanthaDawn1

This is a digital painting for a video game that is in the development stage. It looks like an interesting premise, and the artwork is spectacular. It has a link in the description for a kickstarter campaign if you would like to help get this project off the ground.

Forest of Liars : peaceful morning by Tohad

I love this one just for the happenstance of the alignment of the sun between these trees and the sharp eye of the photographer to see this and compose the photo. It almost looks like the trees are caressing the sun as it rises into a new day.

Reunited II by EvelineDaw

This is a great shot just for sheer drama. I like the way the composition and situation of this church just sweeps up to the right, really brings to life the mountainous location.

Beware of darkness by dfm63

I just like the haughty expression of the model and how the darkness of the tones bring out that effect. Besides being a really skillful drawing.

Weekly Sketch #4 by MaggieParvanova

This just really evokes a mood. Not really a good mood, but a mood none the less. I really like how the artist has managed to make the face emerge from the vertically angled brush strokes, and the slight hints of color give life and reality to the composition.

The following are a few B&W compositions, each by a different artist. Notice how the composition and processing has lent a different atmosphere to each, yet each brings out the attributes that make a good B&W photo so splendid.

NC Garden XXI by LDFranklin  And In The End by Trippy4U
 a n t a g o n i s m by JonhyBlaze Calla lily by sxsvexen

This quilt is an amazing piece of craftsmanship. I would especially encourage you to please read the artists description to get the full impact of how this came about.

I just really like how the artist captured the late, late twilight afterglow of the day in this painting.

Daylight by LegionEllen

A brilliant depiction of a demon that haunts many of us.

Yog-Sothoth by ioanz

Warm and fuzzy. But you should really read the origins of the works in this series.

And as always, the Cat Tax:

I have been meaning to both: dig further into her gallery, as well as promote her artwork in a feature. Her work is both authentic and stylistic, colorful yet realistic. I am talking about the art of G. Hobson, otherwise known as MitziMonster. I hope you enjoy her work as much as I do, and are encouraged to follow and support her and her work.
